With more people rocking out online and creating their own music in GH Tunes, Activision was looking to redesign the community portal so that it felt fully integrated with the overall Guitar Hero franchise. They also wanted to use the community as a platform to introduce more users to online tournaments and upcoming events, and to promote user-generated tunes. The redesign started with a simple touch-up of the user interface. We brought events above the fold, added extensible contest promos and created a GH Tunes music player. We then added the flavor of the overall franchise through a stylized design that hearkened back to the brand. The new community has already seen an increase in average stay time with more people diving into content that had been buried in the previous iterations. It has also added in GH Tunes awareness and participation.
