When Zappos.com approached BLITZ they were just an online retailer with a funny name. They needed an identity, a recognizable logo and a reputation that people trusted and chose to support. The founder of Zappos.com, Nick Swinmurn, wanted his site to look modern without seeming like a techy dotcom site ? his vision: cool, easy and inviting. But how do you build a fun, yet successful identity for a company in e-commerce, an industry that, at the time, was not deemed trustworthy to the public?

BLITZ had a simple solution: create a simple logo and let the unique name “Zappos” be the fun topping. Back then, Zappos.com only sold shoes, or “zapatos”, as they say in Spanish. We played off the name and designed a straightforward logo in a professional font, followed by a shoeprint simulating an exclamation point with the letter “Z” in it.

The shoeprint exclamation point that our team designed coincided directly with the site’s name, making it easy to remember and identify. Today, Zappos.com gets approximately four million visitors per month and is recognized by online shoppers all across America.
