Sons of Anarchy Season 2

Microsite and Facebook Application

After an extremely successful first season, there was no doubt the gritty biker-drama was going to be a prominent part of FX's 2009 fall lineup. To coincide with the broadcast and print initiatives, FX needed a new online experience to help re-launch the show. Using the offline keyart and BLITZ-designed template framework as a starting point, we were able to quickly turn around the design and develop a sophomore-season site that matches the overall tone of the show. However, we did not stop there.

Because SOA has amassed so many fans within its Facebook community, we wanted to take full advantage of the already excited, status-updating audience. Capitalizing off the success of the previous season’s biker gallery, we integrated the site and fan page with a Facebook Connect application called the “Viewing Party.” The application urges users to upload fan photos and invite friends and family members to SOA viewing parties for the chance to win a plasma TV—and the invitations, of course, are plastered on the Facebook wall for all to view and RSVP.

The Facebook integration strategy has proven successful and has helped recruit more members into the SOA community. The show, too, is already a favorite and has grown far beyond its massive male demographic, as their season premiere was one of the most successful show returns of all time.

“It’s our first project with FX using Facebook Connect and the client is very excited and happy. The team did a great job pulling the project together while maneuvering through uncharted territory.”
