Nip/Tuck Season 5

Challenge

For season five of the popularly controversial show Nip/Tuck, FX wanted to open the world of its two main characters (Dr. Sean McNamara and Dr. Christian Troy) to the throngs of devoted fans. To that end, FX was looking for fun and interactive ways that would allow viewers to connect with the show online and become part of the experience. They also wanted “something big” that would lead up to the season premier and highlight the two doctors’ move from Miami to Los Angeles.

Solution

To integrate community and fan engagement into the world of McNamara/Troy, we created a microsite that had all usual suspects of a show’s EPK (electronic press kit)—cast and crew bios, free downloads, and the episode guide. In addition to these components, we added an online consultation module called “Skin Deep” that allows users to submit their photos and have other users vote on whether or not they need plastic surgery. To help launch the show we integrated a video feed that streamed in the “Timeless Beauty Dancers”, who put on a two-day live show at the Beverly Center. Users were urged to vote on their favorite starlet.

Results

Their fifth season launched with a huge success. Besides the EPK content that has allowed loyal fans to get their fill of the narcissistic doctors, both the live event that helped launch the show and the Skin Deep consultation module have been extremely successful in receiving thousands of user-generated submissions and votes.
